Massage

When most people think of massage, they think of Swedish Massage, the most common massage modality. In fact, most massage therapists are trained in Swedish massage as a base on which to build their own technique.

I began my training with Swedish Massage as well. Over time I have added new techniques and modalities as I have gained knowledge, training and experience. After more than 10 years in my practice, a massage with me may have pieces of a number of different modalities woven seamlessly together to give you the most beneficial massage therapy for you.

The massage and bodywork services I offer are combined and tailored to the needs of my clients. Depending on your needs, we may, for example, decide that LaStone followed by light massage is a good combination. Perhaps you may want some pressure point work combined with the Rhythmic Release technique.

Your session with me is your own, and we will work together to design sessions that meet your needs and address any specific need you may have at that time. Sometimes you may need focused attention to problem areas. Some days, you may just want to relax and drift away. Your need is my intention.

The Benefits of Massage

Massage provides relief to people of all ages and from all walks of life. It addresses a variety of health conditions, the most prevalent being stress-related tension, which, experts believe, accounts for 80%-90% of disease. Massage offers a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. It has many physiological effects, such as:

  • Increasing circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
  • Stimulating the lymph system, the body's natural defense against toxins.
  • Relaxing and softening overused muscles.
  • Releasing endorphins, the body's natural painkiller.
  • Improving range of motion and decreasing discomfort for clients with low back pain.

Massage also provides another therapeutic component largely absent in today's world: tactile stimulation, or more simply, touch. Many clients have reported cathartic experiences on the massage table. The feeling of being touched in a safe, caring, compassionate manner can be a very powerful experience, reminding the client that she or he is not alone in the world.
